Shrimp Lo Mein is one of those dishes that never fails to satisfy. With its glossy noodles, crisp vegetables, and tender shrimp tossed in a savory sauce, it’s the kind of meal that feels both indulgent and comforting. While many people associate it with Chinese takeout, it’s surprisingly easy to recreate at home, and the results are even more delicious.
The heart of any good lo mein is the noodles. Egg noodles are traditional, bringing a slight chew and a rich flavor that holds up well against the sauce. You can find them fresh or dried in most grocery stores or Asian markets. Once cooked, they’re stir-fried quickly with shrimp and a mix of vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, snow peas, and cabbage.
The shrimp cook in just minutes, becoming plump and juicy in the pan. They add a delicate sweetness and a touch of luxury to the dish. You can use fresh or frozen shrimp, just make sure they’re peeled and deveined before cooking.
The sauce is where all the flavors come together. A simple combination of soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce, garlic, and a hint of sugar creates a deeply savory and slightly sweet glaze. It clings to the noodles and gives every bite a perfect balance of umami and richness.
What makes Shrimp Lo Mein especially appealing is its versatility. You can add mushrooms, broccoli, bok choy, or whatever vegetables you have on hand. For a bit of heat, add crushed red pepper or a swirl of chili oil. It’s an excellent clean-out-the-fridge kind of meal, and it comes together in under 30 minutes.
Whether you’re cooking for one or feeding a family, Shrimp Lo Mein is a fast and flavorful dinner that brings the taste of your favorite Chinese restaurant into your own kitchen.

This was a total flop in my kitchen… I’m not that great with cooking so my family didn’t like it.
Surprised how quick it came together! Will definitely make this again, maybe with chicken next time.
Delicious! I added broccoli and it was amazing! You’re a genius!
I don’t know, adding broccoli might change the whole flavor. Why mess with perfection?
Thanks! Broccoli sounds like a great addition! I gotta try that next time.
Too much garlic! My family was choking on it. I suggest using less if you don’t want it overpowering.
Why do I need hoisin sauce? Can I use ketchup instead? Asking for a friend.
Yummy! I swapped the shrimp for chicken and it still turned out delicious. Thanks for the recipe!
Made this for my kids, they devoured it! Will be the new weekday dinner for sure.
I don’t know… shrimp for kids? Sounds a bit fancy. What if they don’t like it?
That’s awesome! My kids loved it too. I added some extra veggies and it was a hit!
This recipe was super easy to follow! I loved how quick it was to make, and the flavors were on point. Thank you!
Tried it out but tasted too salty with all those sauces. I might try it again with less soy sauce.
Shrimp was overcooked! It turned rubbery. I guess you gotta watch it closely.
This shrimp lo mein was amazing! So much flavor and super easy to make. Will definitely make again!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! This recipe is a real winner in my house too!
I found it a bit too salty with all the sauces. Maybe omitting one could help?
Eh. It was okay, not really my thing. Probably won’t make it again. Just tastes like noodles and shrimp.
I don’t know about adding hoisin, seemed weird to me. It tasted fine but not authentic that’s for sure.
Just wow. Simple yet flavorful! My shrimp-loving husband approved!
Glad to hear it! This recipe really packs a punch with flavor. Can’t wait to try it myself!
What even is lo mein?! I thought this was some noodle salad. The shrimp are kinda weird though.
