A delicious and easy-to-make Swiss steak recipe that is cooked in a skillet.
2 pounds beef round steak | |
1/4 cup all-purpose flour | |
1 teaspoon salt | |
1/2 teaspoon black pepper | |
2 tablespoons vegetable oil | |
1 large onion, sliced | |
1 green bell pepper, sliced | |
2 cloves garlic, minced | |
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes | |
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce | |
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce | |
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme | |
1/2 teaspoon dried basil | |
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano | |
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley |
1. | Cut beef into serving-sized pieces. |
2. | In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the beef pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. |
3. | In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the beef pieces and brown on both sides. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. |
4. | Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender. |
5. | Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, basil, and oregano to the skillet. Stir to combine. |
6. | Return the beef to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender. |
7. | Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving. |
