Peanut Butter Fried Bread is a unique and indulgent treat that takes the classic fried bread and adds a creamy twist with peanut butter. Whether you’re craving a sweet breakfast or a quick snack, this dish is sure to satisfy your taste buds with its crispy exterior and gooey peanut butter filling. The combination of warm, golden-brown bread and rich, savory peanut butter makes for a mouthwatering experience that’s easy to prepare and impossible to resist.
The bread used for this recipe is typically simple and soft, such as white or whole wheat bread, which absorbs the peanut butter perfectly. The bread slices are lightly fried in oil or butter, which gives them a crispy, golden crust that adds texture and flavor. The inside, however, stays soft, providing the perfect contrast to the crunchy outside. Once fried, the bread is spread with creamy peanut butter, which melts slightly from the heat, creating a smooth, indulgent layer inside the bread.
To make Peanut Butter Fried Bread, you start by frying the bread until it’s crisp and golden. After the bread is done, spread a generous amount of peanut butter on one side of each slice. The peanut butter can be softened slightly if needed, ensuring it spreads easily over the warm bread. You can even add a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon to enhance the flavor and sweetness.
What makes Peanut Butter Fried Bread so delightful is its versatility. You can enjoy it as a sweet breakfast treat, a snack, or even as a dessert. For an extra special touch, serve it with a side of fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The bread can also be made with different nut butters or flavored spreads, such as almond butter, for a fun twist.
This dish is perfect for when you need something quick yet satisfying, and it can easily be made for one or for a crowd. It’s especially popular as a comfort food and a fun, sweet treat for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients
- bread whole wheat, white, or raisin – 1-2 slices per person
- peanut butter preferably crunchy
- 1-2 eggs
- 1-2 tablespoon flour whole wheat or white
- splash milk to achieve a gravy consistency in the egg and flour mixture
Instructions
- Spread peanut butter to cover the bread. Set aside.
- Coating: In a shallow bowl large enough for a slice of bread, mix the egg, flour, and milk to create the coating.
- Lay the peanut butter-covered bread in the coating and flip it over so both sides are coated.
- Cook: Place the coated bread peanut butter-side down in a medium-hot skillet with a little oil or cooking spray.
- Repeat the coating and cooking process with each slice of bread.
- When the first side is browned, flip the bread to cook the other side until brown. (You can cook 2 or 3 pieces at once in a large skillet.)
- Once browned, place the bread on a plate and pour syrup over it.
- For syrup, I prefer homemade. In a separate saucepan, make your own syrup by dissolving 2 cups of white sugar in 1 cup of water. Add 1 teaspoon of Mapleine flavoring (or follow the directions on the bottle, but I use a little extra).
- Eat and enjoy!
Mmm… syrup on anything is the best! Even if it’s fried peanut butter bread. Yum!
Fried peanut butter bread? Wow, I’ve never heard of that! But I’m all for syrup on anything, it makes everything better! 😍
Isn’t fried bread kinda unhealthy? Sounds good but I wouldn’t wanna eat that too often. Just sayin’.
Very filling! Too much for breakfast, should be a dessert instead.
I used raisin bread and WOW! The sweetness was fantastic!
This is aweful, who puts peanut butter on bread and then fries it? Gross!
Tried this with my kids, and they loved it! Will definitely make again.
This recipe is super easy! I can make it in my sleep! 😂
Doesn’t this have a lot of sugar? I thought that was bad for you?
Ehhh, it’s okay. Think I prefer my PB cold and not fried. Not for me.
Not bad but kinda weird. Not sure if I like peanut butter in my eggs…
Wasn’t sure about the milk part, but it turned out good-ish. Ok, I guess. 🤷♀️
I think the milk actually adds a nice creaminess! Maybe try it again with a bit more milk next time?
Good-ish? That’s not a great review… I used almond milk and it was perfect. 🤷♂️
