2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt | |
2/3 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
5-6 tablespoons ice water
6 cups sliced apples | |
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
1 tablespoon milk | |
2 teaspoons granulated sugar |
1. | In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. |
2. | Add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disc and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. |
3. | Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). |
4. | In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Mix well. |
5. | Roll out half of the pie dough on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Transfer the dough to the pan. |
6. | Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Dot the top with small pieces of butter. |
7. | Roll out the remaining pie dough and place it over the filling. Trim and seal the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. |
8. | Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle with sugar. |
9. | Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. |
10. | Allow the pie to cool before serving. |
