Hot Cross Buns are a traditional spiced sweet bun marked with a cross on top. They are typically enjoyed during the Easter season.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups flour all-purpose
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp yeast dry active
  • 1 1/4 cups milk warm
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 2 tbsp spice mix cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  • Mix in the warm milk and melted butter, stirring until the dough begins to form.
  • Add the spice mix and egg, then stir in the raisins.
  • Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough is not sticky.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into balls. Place on a greased baking tray.
  • Let the buns rise again for 30 minutes.
  • Prepare a paste of flour and water for the crosses and pipe onto the buns.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.
