Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces cod fillets about 6 ounces each
  • 4 cups broth fish or vegetable
  • 1 Lemon thinly sliced
  • 4-6 sprigs dill fresh
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 Lemon zest
  • 1 Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp dill finely chopped, fresh
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large, deep skillet or saucepan, pour in the fish or vegetable broth. The pan should be large enough to hold all the cod fillets without overcrowding.
  • Place the lemon slices and fresh dill sprigs in the broth.
  • Heat the broth over medium-high heat until it comes to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low to maintain a gentle simmer.
  • Season the cod fillets with salt and pepper.
  • Carefully place the cod fillets into the simmering broth. Make sure the broth covers the fillets. If not, you can add a little more broth or water.
  • Poach the cod for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes opaque and easily flakes with a fork. The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets.
  • Using a slotted spatula, carefully remove the poached cod fillets from the broth and set them aside on a serving plate.
  • In a small bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon zest, lemon juice, fresh dill, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice as needed.
  • Drizzle the lemon dill sauce over the poached cod fillets
  • Garnish with additional fresh dill and lemon slices if desired.
  • Serve the poached cod with your choice of side dishes, such as steamed vegetables, rice, or a fresh green salad.

I followed it mostly, but I didn’t have fresh dill so I used dried. Still okay, but definitely less “garden-y.” Next time I’ll splurge for fresh.

Dried dill can be a little sad 😅. I usually use it too, but I add a pinch more and let it sit in the yogurt a few minutes so the flavor wakes up.

    2. 5 stars
Totally makes sense about the dried dill—fresh is so much more “alive” in this kind of sauce. Glad it still worked though!

  2. 5 stars
Wow, this was absolutely delicious! The lemon dill sauce was perfect with the cod. Will definitely make again!

This looks good and all, but poaching fish? Sounds too fancy for me. Can you just fry it instead?

    2. 5 stars
I’m glad you liked it! The lemon dill sauce is one of my favorites too. Have you tried it with salmon?

Isn’t cod fishy? My fish was too bland for my taste. 🤔

Made this tonight and it was surprisingly restaurant-y. The yogurt-lemon-dill sauce is tangy without being too sour. Cod stayed flaky and tender.

  5. 3 stars
Eh, was kinda bland. I was expecting more flavor. The yogurt sauce didn’t help much either.

I get what you mean! I thought it was a bit bland too. Maybe next time I’ll add some spices or chili flakes to kick it up a notch.

Not my fave. I think I prefer my fish fried, this was just not it for me.

OMG! Just had this for dinner last night, and it was to die for! Highly recommend!!!

  8. 2 stars
Is garlic really needed? I think it overpowered the delicate flavor of the cod.

Eh, it was okay. I thought it would be more flavorful. Maybe I overcooked the fish? Not sure I’ll try it again.

Best part is the cook time. 5–7 minutes is so manageable. I served it with rice and steamed broccoli and it felt restaurant-level. 10/10.
